Poppy Ballinger is in jail for a crime she didn't commit--though not for lack of trying. Kyle Klein deserved every stab wound he'd gotten for implicating her family as demon summoners and getting them executed but now his father wants Poppy dead and he'll pull every rotten trick in the book to make it happen.

Cue Mayhem and Crush, two gargoyles sent by Poppy's friend Korri to keep her safe. The only problem is Poppy doesn't need their help. She can take care of herself, thank you very much. But the 'goyles aren't listening and they aren't leaving, which means Poppy has two new shadows whether she likes it or not.
