When I lost my rescue dog, I never thought I'd get over him. Now, I've got five handsome guys doing everything they can to cheer me up.

It was time to let Barnaby go. Picking up his ashes nearly broke me. I was ready for a rough day but I didn't expect to run face first into the heir of the biggest dog food company in the country and nearly drop my dead dog.

On the plus side, Tommy Fontaine caught him for me and comforted me through my tears. Now, he and his brothers (adopted and blood-related) are obsessed with me. They say that their work with Sadie's Sanctuary, the premier pet rescue non-profit in the world, is all that matters but I'm getting a sneaking suspicion that there might be more to it than that.

Every dog has a new owner before I can come see them, every kitty finds a corner to call their own. And when I find myself at other rescues, the dogs shrink back from me like I'm a wolf in sheep's clothing come to eat them. I don't understand fully what's going on, but an invitation to a full moon party puts that to rest.

All of these guys are shifters, things that shouldn't exist. And they want to be my furry (and scaly) new friends.

What the heck am I supposed to do? It's not like I can walk a wolf down the middle of the street or put a harness on a dragon and take him to the vet.

I intended to find a pet. These guys?

They want a mate. They want me.
