I, Clara Rhedd, just have one goal this week. Just one! Make it past my seventeenth birthday without something crazy happening. Is that too much to ask? Though I guess my family IS crazy. Us Rhedds? We're the ones you call when Fae creatures go nutty.

Got a group of trolls hogging your bridge? Better bet your butter we will be there. Sprites chasing all the butterflies away? Done. But the biggies, the baddies, the wolves: they're the real trouble. They've killed us Rhedd's, and we've killed them back. But for as long as I've been alive, they've stayed out of our end of the forest.

But now the eyes that have followed me since my favorite brother was killed are watching me more frequently, Granny is acting dodgy, and Dad's hellbent on curfew. Tension is mounting, and I get the feeling secrets are piling up. Sweet baby mermaid, I hope we all live through my birthday.
