There’s a huge war going on outside of my petty life, which involves multiple characters who are time-travellers, shifters, and rebels of the Seven System Alliance. They get to have all the action and adventure, while I, once again, am a lonely captive of luxury and wealth.

I’m balled over backwards with grief. Even though Father showed me little love, he was still my dad, and I loved him. Mother doesn’t care. She’s been in love with King Stigvol since they conceived me, twenty-four years ago. She tries to shame me when she discovers I was sleeping with my three lovers simultaneously, but I won’t let her put me down anymore. I tasted freedom; I tasted love, and I liked it.

When Mohd agrees to help King Stigvol find Queen Scarlex in return for freeing Arew and Chul, my hope grows. My heart breaks when news reaches me about Mohd's death. King Stigvol shows me his corpse.

How can this be? Romance is supposed to have a happy-ever-after.
