Jacinta needs to find her anchors, the people who would keep her body and soul intact while her mind travelled the universe, but life is never as simple as that.

The military are still determined to use her for every advantage that they can claim, and the government want to claim new territory for Earth. Hungry eyes gaze skywards, their targets set firmly on the resources to be found in space. It's a race between nations to see who can create a stable enough portal to get there first.

Things are also heating up with the Pure Human movement. They're pushing to have Portals like Jacinta declared non-human, stripping them of their most basic rights, and their calls are gaining traction.

Then there's the new mind that Jacinta finds, right at the edge of her limits. She can sense war and destruction on a scale that is unimaginable. In an instant, billions of minds scream out and then are silent.
