Civil war has a funny way of defining everything it touches.

It leaves little room for decency and even less for dignity and choice. Flossie May is a sheltered, obedient daughter, until her father is killed on the battlefield and her mother decides to look out for herself rather than her daughters.

Forced into an indecent arrangement that her mother orchestrated, Flossie uses her wits and proves to the General that her value is more than skin deep.

She wins his respect and the love of his men, but will it be enough to safely see her and her sister through the war? She was innocent once, God fearing even until necessity demanded the unthinkable...
