Author FAQ

YOUR PROFILE

Once claimed, your profile is yours. Why Choose? will edit your covers, the release date, and if your book is available on Amazon (these are pulled from Amazon automatically and may take a few days to populate on the site).

If a reader submits a tag suggestion (addition or removal), you will get a weekly email notification and the option to approve or reject. If no action is taken, these suggestions will be automatically approved after two weeks. You will always have the opportunity to go in and edit these tags!

If we see a new book release, we will add it to our site, but we will only use information available to us on Amazon. If there is no blurb, at the time of adding to Why Choose? it will not get added automatically – you, the author, must do this.

In addition, with a verified profile, you will be able to add in a short description on your profile page, as well as all of your social media links to make it easier for readers to find you.

CLAIMING YOUR PROFILE

Step One

  1. Go to www.why-choose.com
  2. Click on ‘SIGN UP / LOG IN’
  3. Complete your details
  4. Head to your inbox to confirm your email address (you may need to check your spam folder, especially if you have a Gmail account).
  5. Once confirmed, head back to Why Choose? and you will have reader access to the site

Step Two (for Authors)

  1. At the very bottom of the page, under support, click on ‘Are you an author?’
  2. Click on ‘Link your profile now’
  3. Complete the section. For authors with multiple pen names, you can select as many profiles as required, however these will need to be separate requests.
  4. Please wait for us to approve. This is a manual process and both admins are based in the UK with full time jobs – this could take up to 24 hours, but we’ll try to approve as soon as possible.
  5. Request to join our Facebook group. This is for approved authors only and the only support group this site has (there’s no marketing or writing tips – there are other groups for that!)

Step Two (for PAs)

PAs can be granted access to help you manage your pages. We will confirm with the author before access is given.

  1. At the very bottom of the page, under support, click on ‘Are you an author?’
  2. Click on ‘Link your profile now’
  3. Complete the following section, selecting PA under ‘Permission Required’.
  4. PAs can select multiple profiles, but they will have to be requested separately.
  5. Please wait for us to approve. This is a manual process and both admins are based in the UK with full time jobs – and we will need to confirm with the author first.

ADDING AND EDITING BOOKS

One: Adding Books

  1. Click on your username in the top right hand corner
  2. Select ‘Add Book’
  3. Fill in the details. Book Title, Author, and ASIN are compulsory fields.
  4. If your name isn’t located in the Author Field, you will need to add yourself. Click on ‘Add a new author’ and complete the fields. Co-authors can also be added here.
  5. If there are any existing series assigned to you they will show up in the Series box. This can sometimes take a second to populate. If you need to add a new series, click on ‘Add a series’. (For multi-author series, please contact Why Choose? and we can help you get these books linked under the same series).
  6. Add in relevant tags, especially trigger warnings. The search on Why Choose? uses these tags, so if you want your books to be found, this is the field to use. Any chosen tags will show up under the box.
  7. Book and author notes: There is no real rule on how you use these, however, we envisioned book notes to be used for information like ‘this book was originally part of the X anthology’, and author notes more of a ‘this book has been unpublished for X reason’.
  8. At the bottom of the page are the options for ‘Standalone’, ‘Box Set’ and ‘Last book’. Last book will allow for the series to switch to completed once the last book has been published so you don’t need to come back in and edit it.
  9. Save.

Step Two: Editing Books

  1. Navigate to the book you want to edit.
  2. Select ‘Edit Book’.
  3. The ‘Edit Book’ page will open. This is exactly the same as the ‘Add Book’ page, only you will now see the book’s information. Book Title and ASIN are locked fields. You will need to contact the Why Choose? page to have these amended.
  4. Amend any details you need to.
  5. Save.
