Guarded by Gargoyles

It took nearly being killed for anyone to notice I was alive.

Well, as more than a punching bag, that is.

Janesville, Ohio is as boring as its name, but it does a fine job at grooming self-entitled bullies from the football field to the pageant stage and beyond. I only had one year left here and I planned to stay under the radar. Then, freedom would be mine.

But nothing in my life ever goes as planned.

I didn't expect to be fished out of the dumpster I was left to die in.

I certainly didn’t expect my rescuers to be five strange, gorgeous, and insane guys who claim to be gargoyles.

I had my whole future mapped out and it didn't include these five crazy guys who shadow me everywhere, trying to lure me in with sweet words, caring gestures, and a wall of protection the likes of which I’ve never experienced.

They may claim they’re the gargoyles, but I’m the one whose heart is made from stone, and I can’t let them in.

But it turns out spoiled teens and self-entitled townies might not be the worst things hunting these lonely streets at night. Secrets and darkness thrive in the heartland and even if I drop my walls I’m not sure we’ll make it out of here alive.

I don’t want to end up buried in Janesville cemetery, but destiny may have other plans for me. Magic has always been for the books I’ve hidden in, but being knee-deep in it might be the only way I have a chance at a future outside of a grave.
