Phoenix: Claimed by the Moon Blades

The fae have fed off of the moon for centuries.
Now… that light is about to die out, and as a starbright, I’m about to go with it.

“She’s dead,” a male voice said, his foot swiftly jabbing me in the ribs.

“Shame.” A shadow fell over me, blocking out the faint moonlight I desperately needed to survive.

If I could only open my eyes, I could draw it into myself and fend off these sinister males.

“Not dead,” the closest male countered, his touch unexpectedly gentle as he brushed away a lock of silver hair from my face. “Open your eyes, sweetheart.”

Oh, how I wanted to, but he blocked the moon. I had fallen from the constellations, only to land in a pit where these idiots wouldn’t allow me the nourishment I needed to thrive. I had trained all my life for this moment, and it would be over before it started.

“Give her space,” one of the more intelligent males suggested.

The shadow moved away, and then the blessedly cool moonlight fell on my skin, allowing me to draw in a deep breath. I opened my eyes, and that’s when I saw them.

Not intruders, but the males who all shone like diamonds, their brilliantly blue eyes holding a shard of the stars themselves.

Destiny had a funny way of working out, because these were my guardians, the only beings on this planet who could prevent me from turning to ash.

They each held up a silver dagger that matched my own. “We are the Moon Blades,” the tallest announced, his pointy ears peeking through hair even finer than mine. “And you are intruding on our land.”
