Is it ever wise to make a deal with the devil?

I now know the Dark King knows I have other fated mates, and I know he is prepared to do whatever it takes to stop any pairing. But regardless of what he did, I’m furious at finding out someone I’m supposed to trust has used one of my knights as a sacrifice, and I can no longer trust the actions of those who claim to have my interests at heart.

Hearing there is only one path out of this—go to war with the Dark King and kill him. But first the kingdom wants an heir, and that thought worries me more than I care to think about because if the kingdom wants an heir, does that mean the kingdom leaders don’t think I’ll survive the war with the Dark King?

And regardless of my incredible knights being prepared to risk their lives through binding with me to give me the magic I need, I can’t let them. I’m not willing to lose any of them and I’ll do whatever it takes to save them. And what I do might be foolish, but I decide to make a deal with the devil.

But it turns out it isn’t just the Dark King I need to be concerned about. I make deals with the other Kings who I know want me for my magic. That was my fault, though. The bittersweet moment I saved a life but harmed my own. The moment I showed everyone who I really am—he warned me—I can’t complain about the backlash.
